The new convention center which will replace Panama’s ATLAPA is each day closer to reality. It is no news that ATLAPA is now to small for the needs of even the local convention market and much less for the international convention market which Panama is anxious to target and attract.
The government has planned to build on landfill on the Panama Bay. This idea is not only to build a convention center but a public plaza, hotels, a mall and sports areas for the use of visitors and locals. The cost of the project including landfill and building will be above 370 million USD.
Panama currently has several advantages that make it an interesting place to hold international conventions. It is easily accessible by air as Panama’s airline COPA has 45 international destinations and has recently announced the opening of its 46th destination to Saint Martin in the Caribbean directly from Panama,
